Diary

Our club meets for a social run every Tuesday, and for a training run every Thursday. We also participate in cross-country and road races most weekends, and ad-hoc groups often get together during the week for various other runs together, such as long runs.

All of our activities are attended by members of all abilities.

In general:
Winter runs are on the road within Burton, starting from the Shobnall Leisure Complex reception.
Summer runs are off-road from various locations in the Burton area, usually starting and finishing at a pub.

High vis vests must be worn for all winter evening runs, and head torches where street lighting is poor. If any member requires a high vis vest, one can be ordered from our Club Kit page.

We’ll warm-up with a jog past the running track to the canal bridge to the east of Shobnall, and then along the cycle track to Dallow St. bridge and back to the Shobnall bridge. We had a track session on Tuesday so I’ve decided not to do another workout on Thursday. Instead we’ll do a 6 mile run from Shobnall Reception which can be used for recovery, Fartlek sprints for those who want to, or just come for a run. The route is another of my mystery footpaths runs. So it’s all on tarmac and on as many footpaths or cycle tracks as I can find.

It's almost 6 miles, out along the Jinnie trail until the steps off to the left, footpath to Rolleston. Short stretch of road then footpath almost to Tutbury Mill. Double back along other path back to Marston Lane where we pick up the outward path back to the pub. All paths on pasture land.

Forest Edge Way is a loop of 0.35 miles having an elevation gain of 22 feet for the first half of the lap, so the intervals will have a slight uphill and downhill. The course is in a residential area, crosses no roads, has good street lighting and has little traffic.
The plan is to do 2 sets of 5 x 2 minute efforts with 1 minute recovery between each; 5 minute break between sets.

    Leader: Barry Birch
Meet at Shobnall Reception for a 7:15pm departure. We will do a 1.4 mile warm up run to Forest Edge Way. If you can’t make it to Shobnall for 7:15 go directly to Forest Edge Way; we’ll probably get there at 7:30 but it won’t matter if you’re a little late.
Forest Edge Way is a loop of 0.35 miles having an elevation gain of 22 feet for the first half of the lap, so the intervals will have a slight uphill and downhill. The course is in a residential area, crosses no roads, has good street lighting and has little traffic.
Depending on attendance we may do short buddy relay intervals, which are 2 sets of 15 minutes of approx. 250m efforts and recovery while your buddy runs his/her leg. Otherwise it’ll be the usual 2 sets of 5 x 2 minute efforts with 1 minute recovery between each; 5 minute break between sets.

6.9 miles. From Repton to Newton Solney and Milton. Meet at the entrance to Repton Church. Parking is available directly by the church and on the roads near the roundabout. The route is mainly footpaths and trail, with some small road sections. Generally a nice clear route. There are is a small section of one field that has long corn where the path is narrow, another section towards Milton with some slightly wayward rapeseed and one other section that will be single file and has a slight stinger risk. The ground at the moment is good so trail shoes or road shoes will be fine. Choice of either the Boot or the Red Lion on our return.

It’ll be the 2 sets of 5 x 2 minute efforts with 1 minute recovery between each; 5 minute break between sets.
