Derby Runner Cross Country at Bagworth Heath, 23rd October, 2011
It was not a day to remember last Sunday for local club Hatton Darts as they travelled to Bagworth Heath for the 3rd cross country meeting in this seasons Derby Runner League . Totally depleted of running personnel the club just managed to raise the 2 teams required to take part on a glorious sunny morning on this usually notoriously wet & boggy circuit , but the long recent spell of dry weather made it an enjoyable event for all 350 plus runners . It was long serving member Tony Caulton who arrived first at the finishing line for the Darts mens team after a greatcontrolled run in 20th pos and not far behind Jim Londesborough knowing the course so well and using it to his advantage knocked off a few runners in the latter stages for a well earned 53rd placing . Stan Knopik was next Dart in after a truly fine run and battling it out most of the way with club mate Niomi Warr and Knopik well satisfied with his 61st finish and shortly afterwards Nigel Maguire need not have been too disappointed with his outing after working really hard for a 105th finish . Fresh back from holiday John Gregson charged round this 5.5 mile course in fine fashion and was well pleased for a 127th spot and an excellent effort from new Dart recruit Chris Grice comfortably earned a 208 pos whilst providing another truly inspirational run ,young Colin Scattergood (73 yrs old) flew in for a great 238th finish and 6 places behind Andy Gadsby gave a good outing and a quick finish for a credible 246 position .
The Darts ladies team still show consistency in team performances and it was Naomi Warr who was first lady in for the darts in a super 3rd lady finish proving what a top performer she is and it was not too long before the reliable Wendy Freeman appeared amongst a pack of runners giving her absolute all to a very good 23rd spot and just back from a spell of injuries Pam Chamberlains experience of this course was useful and a great 30th placing was her just reward for her sterling efforts . Carol Sharrat was next across the line again toiled hard in the warm conditions for her 69th finish and although not having time to warm up , Jane Wade was pleased she ran a quicker time from her last visit to this course another good effort . The little frame of Siu-Foon Fok ran a good controlled race and even managed a brave sprint finish and getting better on every race , Harriet Walsh again giving 100% for the club and credited with a 106 finish . The post race results proved what a poor turn out this was for the Darts as they finished 13th overall in the combined results although all who ran can be pleased with all their performances.
