Hatton Darts running club were able to turn out 2 men's and 1 women's team there were 10 to each team, last Sunday at the annual High Peak relays held at Cromford, Matlock. This event is certainly growing in popularity with a record 48 teams taking part in which the Darts generally do well in.

Posing in the clubs new darts tops club members mingled with the 400 plus competitors on a cold but bright morning all keen to do well on their "chosen legs" on the 18 mile out and back scenic course. Despite some members taking a detour to Carsington water all got to their changeover venues in time to run their leg.

The mens "A" team, despite absenteeism, managed to raise a strong crew to compete with the regular winners of this event Hallamshire Harriers.  Pete Wright first off for the Darts on the tough up hill first leg ran superbly to come in 3rd place and word of his performance quickly spread up field to other members resulting in some great performances. Paul Stewarts making his debut ran well as did Duncan Stewart who goes from strength to strength.

The "A" team were slightly disappointed to find they finished 3rd overall but a true sporting gesture from the strong Derby Tri club realising a time keeping error had occurred due to Rich Peel wearing a ladies "run number". The essential 4 minutes difference were re-calculated and the men's "A" team were awarded 2nd place. Many thanks to Derby Tri for true sportsmanship.

The mens "B" team were not to be outdone on this big occasion with some brave and battling performances. Tony Press volunteering the 1st hard leg ran hard and well and Nig Elsons sub 15 minute dash also ran well. Lyndsey Kirklands return to racing did not disappoint and Jim Londesborough fine efforts all contributing to the "B" teams 14th overall finishing position. A credible effort by all.

Thanks go to Nig Elson and Duncan Stewart for filling in on the "B" team, after running in the A team.

Kath Caultons endeavour to raise a womens team proved satisfactory as again like the mens team. They put in some gritty performances. Notable contributions were Pam Chamberlain who chose to run the first "mountain of a climb" on the 1st leg and the 3 "Kaths-on-the-paths", Cormack, Hallam and Caulton respectively all got stuck in well and making her first visit to this event Vickie Collins enjoyed her powerful run and finish on her section. Deb Gilman taking a liking to the last down hill finish also competed well. All the womens good application finished them in a well justified position of 31st placing.
