The red vests of Hatton Darts travelled to Bosworth Battlefields last Sunday to compete in the last of the cross country season meetings.
Hinckley were the hosts in a first time tried relay event and a good success they turned out to be for the Darts. Mothers Day meant the numbers were down, but the Mother of all were the bitter cold winds and the water soaked fields making the course a stern challenge.
Hatton managed to raise only 3 teams (3 per team), but the Darts made good successes. First off with the baton, running for the vets team,Tony Caulton. Caulton led the field all the way, the conditions never seeming a problem to this strong Dart as he handed over to Tony Press with a big lead on his chasers. Press took the baton and although lacking race fitness ploughed through the killing fields never looking out of it holding on to 1st place for the vets. Chris Fletcher took over from Press and attacked the course with his normal determination and enthusiasm and held on well to bring the vets team in 1st place.
The senior team were up against the normal tough rivals of past events, but this did not deter Richard Peel. First off for the seniors, and with slight back trouble, Peel ran well in the shadows of his mentor Tony Caulton and brought the baton in for the seniors in a fine 4th position. Taking off 2nd in the team, Nigel Elson, although in marathon training, cruised round the demanding course in strong style not letting up the senior teams position giving the baton to Phil Salt whose pre run nerves never showed as he gave a fantastic effort to bring the senior team in a great bronze position.
Starting off for the mixed team, Kath Caulton produced her normal strong application finishing as strong as she started sprinting into the changeover to hand over to Geoff Mulcahy who powered his way round the ankle deep troughs and enjoying the latter part of the course gave the baton to Tony Caulton, who because of lack of darts members, ran the last leg for the mixed team pulling back some places to bring the team Home in 5th position.
The seasons presentation's were held after the race for various team / individual award. The Hatton Darts roll of honour is as follows;
Team captains Geoff Mulcahy and Kath Caulton wish to thank all members for their tremendous efforts in this seasons competition and at times in such horrendous conditions.
