A posse of Hatton Darts members made the short journey to Uttoxeter race course on Sunday to participate in the annual half marathon comprising of race two in the Burton and district summer league road series. The course could be described as tough and hilly but this did not deter over 400 runners toeing the line at the race course entrance. The route commenced with a climb for the first two miles and then the back lanes around Marchington woodlands culminating at seven miles with the steep ascent of Marchington Cliff, the remainder of the route took in Marchington village and further lanes to return to the race course, a constant stream of eager Darts eventually returned to the fine setting of the race course lead by Tony Caulton.

Gordy Smith was hard on Caulton's heels and is showing good form for his up and coming Edinburgh marathon, a personal best for Smith of 1 hr 21 should see him break the 3 hour barrier north of the border, the next dart in was Duncan Stewart showing no strain from his recent 2h 51 marathon in Lochabar Scotland,this time showing an impressive 1 hr 23 mins. The fourth dart and in good form for his impending half Ironman, triathlon in barcelona was Ian Jackson in 1 hr 30.

The men continued to the refuge of the paddock area comprising of Wailing Shin, 1 hr 31 mins, Andy Grigg, 1 hr 35 mins, Tony Press 1 hr 37 mins, Mark Sunley 1 hr 44 mins, Jonathan Gregson in his first road half marathon completed a personal best in 1 hr 48 mins, Andy Gadsby completed the Darts men completing a course pb for the course of 2 hr 06 mins.

Hatton ladies were keen to carry on with their success from the last x country season and previous summer leagues and like the men provided a steady stream of red vests along the breezy and picturesque country lanes, Naomi Warr was the lead dart in 10th overall in 1 hr 36 mins, Jane Godfrey continued the trend taking the female vet 50 prize in 1 hr 42 mins,

Emma Hallas looked strong in 1 hr 44 mins, followed by Wendy Freeman in 1 hr 46 mins, Carol Sharratt just failed to get under 2 hours in 2 hr 03 mins with newcomer Mairead Whitty jumping in at the deep end but satisfied with 2 hr 17 mins.

The presentation concluded a very well organised event by our friends in Uttoxeter with the Darts ladies taking the 2nd ladies team awards and the men complimenting the result also in 2nd place
