  • Follow signs for the visitors centre
  • Cost for parking is £1.50 Bring exact change. Pay at unmanned barrier. Expect queues
  • No changing available
  • Toilets at visitors centre
  • Senior race is 2 laps. 5.5 miles in total.
  • Terrain - grass, hard [not tarmac] bridle path. Some steep gradients. Spikes or Studs recommended
  • Be alert to the dangers of Deep Open Water
  • Severn Trent [site owners] are supportive, but require a lot of marshals. Marshalling help from other clubs will be gratefully appreciated.

Report

The last race of the Derby Runner cross country season was held last Sunday at the Foremark Reservoir on a bitterly cold morning where 260 plus competitors turned out in what has proved to be a very competitive season. Burton based Hatton Darts have had some great results of late in this hard fought league and needed to be in good form to be assured of making the national final in Halifax in April. Pre race concerns of personal placings were quickly diminished after the frantic start as some Darts performances glowed through out the huge field.

The two lap slippery course never seemed to bother new Dart Ashley Herdman as he set his stall out well and took the scalps of some experienced runners and romped home in a good 9th position and 10 places behind Duncan Stewart's run from Burton as a warm up worked wonders as he sprinted across the line in a super 19th pos and again following close in Nigel "Daddy" Elson never stops improving in this sport for a well earned 24th placing.

You never expect any else from Mr 150% Gordy Smith as he mustered up another good race in 33rd pos whilst getting back to form Simon Elliott appeared up the placings where he truly belongs crossing over the line in 39th. Steve Clews pre race doubt didn't show as he ran a remarkable run and was able to count as last man for the scoring, a good effort and not too far behind having his best cross country run to date young Danny Wilson's good charge meant he just pipped club mate Jim Londesborough finishing 53rd and 55th respectively.

Ian Stewart made a rare race appearance and enjoyed his 74th spot and Mark Sunley certainly is getting stronger and noticed with his 82nd placing. A good battle emerged between the old master Tony Press and young Wai Lin with the younger just holding out to a 98th pos and Tony Press settling for 99th spot.

Slowly making progress from injury captain Chris Fletcher was content with his performance in 108th whilst a little further behind Paul Brown ran a much quicker 2nd lap to a satisfying good 130 finish and although feeling tired John Gregson will be happy with his contribution for a 144 spot. Andy Gadsby ran a cautious race due to a slight injury finishing in 176 and not too far behind senior Dart Colin Scattergood love of this course showed with a credible 185 ending.

Hatton Darts women have their best cross country season in the clubs history and continued the good work through out the team. After a long lay off Naomi Warr is still finding it tough to get back into racing but still worked tirelessly and well for her 6th position. Claire McDonnell was next woman in for the Darts after a great thought out run came in 17th women's placing and in her shadows Wendy Freeman never letting her quick pace drop galloped home in 21st and seconds behind her club mate Pam Chamberlain made sure she was last to count for scoring in a fine gutsy performance for 23rd place.

Getting better race by race Allison Collins new footwear proved good as she ran a very good 32nd pos and ghosting in close behind a very strong finish from Emma Hallas gave her a well deserved 47th placing and Carol Sharratts determined good outing did not go un-noticed as she completed the women's team in a gratifying 63rd pos.

At the post race results it was confirmed that Hatton Darts will be representing the midlands at Halifax. The Dart's Womens team finished 3rd and the mens team came 1st in their respective leagues with a combined 1st place overall. For a small club this is some achievement and a very well deserved reward.
